Farming with Family

Are you a generational farmer?

Are there members in your family business that refuse change?

Maybe they want things to stay the same because they feel like that will make the customers happy…

Or

Maybe they don’t like technology and want to keep things the way they are - because that’s how it's always been. It’s never been a problem before…

Either way, it can be totally frustrating!! How can we change up the way we do things to keep everyone happy?

How can you get others in your business to see that technology and revising your processes can HELP the business.

I had a client who came to me with this EXACT situation! They all work together to run their very busy farm. They were looking for ways to keep everyone on track with things like: Farm chores, keeping everyone on the same page and reducing the amount of emails they were receiving from their customers for orders and streamlining customer pick ups.

BUT… there was a lot of push back from some family members who wanted to keep things the way they were…

So what can be done to find some middle ground?

First: Communicate: Make time to meet and discuss the concerns of everyone. Review the benefits of the “old” way vs. the “new” way.

Second: Compromise: Come up with a plan that everyone can get on board with and create a TEMPORARY implementation. Check in often with everyone and see what’s working and what isn’t working. Make adjustments as needed or create additional training if required.

Third: Baby Steps: Don’t overcomplicate your solution by implementing too many changes too soon, this can lead to frustration, overwhelm and that wouldn’t benefit anyone.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day”!

It doesn’t have to be overly complicated, so keep it simple.

If you’re not sure where to start or you are looking for support, let’s chat! I’d love to get to know you and your family and set up a plan on how we can create a plan to get everyone on the same page!
